The Bill to allow lesbians and single women to use Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART or IVF) will be debated in the Legislative Council next week from 28 October.
The Bill also allows the lesbian partner of a birth mother to be listed as a 'parent' on the birth certificate.
Salt Shakers News commented, "(this bill) destroys the notion of mother and father! ALL children need a mother and a father. "
Liberalising the surrogacy laws along with these changes would allow homosexual men to have access to IVF and surrogacy enabling them to have babies in Victoria.
In the Legislative Assembly, all the Liberals and Nationals voted against the Bill, plus Independent Craig Ingram and four members of the ALP (Christine Campbell, James Merlino, Marlene Kairouz and George Seitz).
