Melbourne based group, Youth for Life, has drawn fire over its "revelation tour" of anti-abortion protests in NSW and Victoria for which it has sponsored the participation of four American "friends".
The group has raised the funds to bring over four American "friends" to take part in a "revelation tour" across Melbourne, Sydney and several regional towns, The Age says.
About a dozen demonstrators staged a "die-in" in Federation Square yesterday, lying down in the foetal position and shrouding themselves in red fabric to represent aborted babies.
They also displayed graphic posters of aborted foetuses, gave away flyers to passers-by and shouted their message using megaphones.
While the protest was peaceful, several bystanders expressed their disgust at the anti-abortionists' behaviour.
One man stubbed out his cigarette on a protester, while another man confronted them.
Earlier, about 80 protesters, including children and babies, demonstrated outside an abortion clinic in Berkeley Street, Carlton.
The protesters began their tour in Sydney on March 23, and have held demonstrations in Wagga Wagga and Albury.
Prue Neiderding, the founder and leader of the Melbourne arm of the group, said they were holding peaceful and prayerful protests "to stand against abortion and to protect Victorian women and their children from these crimes."
"We are not going away because while they kill children in Victoria, we will continue to stand up against the people that murder our youth here and who victimise and betray our women," she said.
