"Christian leadership is part character, part gifting, and part science. Many of the skills and attributes that are required of an effective leader can be taught, and learned. The CMA Leaders Scholarship program has been established to support the mission of CMA in furthering the cause of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, by providing access to world-class training for ministry leaders in Australia," said Gary Williams, the national director of CMA.
Applications are invited from church and ministry leaders who have an aptitude for leadership, are committed to the cause of Christ and his Gospel, and who are in a position within a non-profit ministry organisation to use the acquired skills and knowledge strategically. Applications must be for a course of study at an institution recognised for high-calibre leadership training, with relevance to organisational leadership and management. Full eligibility criteria and program details are available online at www.cma.net.au/scholarship
The Scholarships are funded 50% by private and organisational donations to the fund, and matched dollar-for-dollar (up to $100,000) by a supporting foundation. $25,000 is already committed, and every dollar donated by 30 April 2012 will be matched to create the pool from which scholarships are awarded.
Williams explained, “there are many outstanding ministries in Australia, led by capable and committed Christian leaders. But often, frugal organisations are unable to afford really top-shelf training. Institutions such as Stanford in California, Mt Eliza in Melbourne, and Oxford in UK, all offer exceptional courses relevant for nonprofit leaders, and attendance at a course like this could be pivotal in helping an existing leader achieve their full potential. The CMA Leaders Scholarship program makes this kind of training a possibility.”
Applications close on February 24, 2012, and all eligible applications will be assessed by a selection panel of experienced ministry leaders appointed by the CMA Board.
