The upcoming visit to Australia of Richard Dawkins, probably the world's most famous and vocal atheist, is heating up.
Last week, a cyber attack brought down the websites of The Atheist Foundation of Australia and The Global Atheist Convention. As reported in the media, the attacks may be related to this Convention being held in Melbourne in April next year. Richard Dawkins, author of "The God Delusion", a world-wide best-seller, is a key speaker.
Now, Australian David Heenan has proposed a biblical-like challenge - "David versus Dawkins, the global Goliath of atheists." David Heenan is challenging Dawkins to a public debate on whether God exists or not, during his visit here.
"I think it's time," said Heenan, author of a new book entitled 'The Sceptic's Guide to God', "that people realised that the viewpoint of Dawkins has no real scientific basis.
"Dawkins' hobby-horse, for example, is that Darwin's Theory of Evolution explains our existence - but it's shaping up as the greatest hoax in human history!" adds Heenan. "The fossil history simply does not support Darwin's Theory and, furthermore, some leading evolutionists admit it!
"For example, David Kitts, Professor of Geology at the University of Oklahoma, an evolutionist, once admitted this: 'Evolution requires intermediate forms between species and palaeontology (the study of fossil history) does not provide them.'
"Where does the lack of such crucial evidence leave Dawkins and other atheists who embrace evolution to explain the reason we are here? Totally deluded, in my opinion! And how can they ignore the fact that the many complex mechanisms in Nature simply shout design?
Heenan is sending an official invitation to Richard Dawkins today via David Nicholls, the President of the AFA.
"Like David of ancient times, who took on Goliath, I will naturally be classed as the underdog in this event to which I challenge Richard Dawkins," states David Heenan. "But let's put forward the facts, not supposition, concerning the existence or non-existence of God and let the public have a better understanding of them. Have they been hood-winked too long by the likes of Dawkins? I obviously think so."
Will Richard Dawkins accept the challenge of a public debate with David Heenan? If he chooses not to, perhaps it is because he is aware of the outcome of the biblical story David Heenan refers to. Although the underdog, David - a young shepherd at the time but future king of Israel - managed to wipe out the scoffing giant Goliath with a single stone propelled from his sling-shot!
