Christian Super has been awarded the Infinity Award by SuperRatings, a superannuation benchmarking company that helps consumers choose between superannuation funds.
“Receiving this award is a great recognition that our focus on environmental, social, governance, ethical and climate issues in our investment policy has been recognised by the industry,” said Christian Super CEO, Peter Murphy. “Our Trustee and staff are inspired by John Wesley’s mandate to ‘Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways that you can, in all the places that you can, at all the times you can, as long as you can’,” Peter said.
Introduced in 2008, the Infinity award recognises the superannuation fund that demonstrates the most genuine commitment to addressing its environmental and social responsibilities.
Christian Super has also just been ranked second in the second annual Asset Owners Disclosure Project, part of the Climate Change Investment Initiative run by the Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees.
Using a survey sent to Australian superannuation funds with over $300m under management, the Project was able to produce a climate change capability industry ranking across the 32 funds that took part.
“Christian Super is doing an outstanding job in building this capability and mitigating the material risks for its members,” said Julian Poulter, Director of the Climate Institute..
“That we were ranked second is great confirmation that our sustainable and ethical investment strategy is right on target,” said Peter Murphy, CEO of Christian Super.
“As Christians, we believe we need to be good stewards of God’s creation,” he said. “The risks associated with climate change, especially for the poor and disadvantaged, have compelled us to seriously examine this issue and take action,” said Peter.
Christian Super’s current focus has been investment in funds that comprise renewable energy projects and clean technologies including geothermal, wind, solar and tidal sources. Furthermore, Christian Super invests in a sustainable agriculture fund that is mindful of water efficiency, renewal energy practices and focus on regeneration of nature ecosystems.
