29 January 2008 John 14 v 5-7
Thomas said to Jesus "Lord, we don't know where you are going. So how can we know the way?"
Jesus answered, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. The only way to the Father is through me. If you really knew me, you would know my Father, too. But now you do know him, and you have seen him."
Notes
If you have ever watched the London marathon, you will have noticed that the runners follow a blue line throughout the course. This is to give them direction, but also show them the best root for them to take.
When Thomas says to Jesus that he doesn't know where Jesus is going, how can he know the way? Jesus gives him clear instructions and guidance on how to follow him.
The challenge for the marathon runners, as it was for the disciples with Jesus, and it is for us today, is to follow the direction given, and not stray from it. As soon as a marathon runner goes away from the blue line, they go off course, and run the risk of getting lost, and the same is true for us. If we don't follow directions, how can we expect to reach the goal?
Prayer
Dear God, please help me to follow your directions, so that I can enjoy all that you have in store for me.
