A record number of students for “Foundations” in Poatina started what will be a record year for Fusion’s training.

The 350 students, who completed the Foundations short course at the end of January, are the first in a wave of many more with a record number of courses scheduled around the world in 2008.

Foundations is a one week course that equips people to make a difference in their communities, but also has a profoundly personal dimension as students are challenged to reflect on their relationships with others and God, as well as how they view themselves.

National coordinator of the Foundations course, Matt Garvin, says “It seems as though Foundations has hit a real chord overseas. There is something about the courses very pragmatic approach to life, faith and mission that seems to be meeting a need in many different nations”.

A record number of countries will be hosting foundations courses this year including Nigeria , Ghana , Hong Kong , Indonesia , Albania , Greece , Germany , the U.K. , U.S.A. , Jamaica , Canada , Sri Lanka and India .

“We are struggling to meet the demand, we have really had to step up our trainer training process and now we have 120 trainee trainers around the world” Matt says. “I suppose it is not surprising given the impact the course has every time on the lives of both the participants and those who are training”.

The response to the January course has again been very positive:

A senior church leader from America said of the course, “Foundations is a life-giving experience, one that has to be participated in to be appreciated. This experience has reinforced the importance of living out of core values that allow you to experience God on a daily basis and enjoy the community of his family.”

One participant from the Northern Territory said, “It is a course that gives not only the theory of what is community and how you live in it but also the experience of community and how you live in it.”

A Sydney Youth Worker called the course” Truly life changing! Apart from the content of the Course, most of what I learned has been through the way people related with each other. Community vision is what has impacted me the most. I will be taking that back with me.

A Construction supervisor from Sydney said that the week was “the most profound experience that I have had in any training course.”

Fusion is a Registered Training Organisation and delivers accredited training in Christian Youth and Community work from Certificate III to Advanced Diploma level.
