The Galston Christian Education Association is made up of 11 local churches in the Hills Shire who raise the funds to support Ministry in the Galston High School.
The organization started 27 years ago and Ben Davis from Glenorie Mission Church is one of the original committee members.
Although from different denominations, the churches work together through a Committee, which is led by an Executive group of five. While the dinner has been hosted by a different church each year, holding this year’s fundraiser at Galston High itself was a great move. Not only is it the location of the work itself, but having to contribute and transport many items such as tables, crockery, food, decorations etc encouraged us all to pitch in together. The organisers were very grateful for the willing support of the Principal, David Short, and his staff, in allowing them to use the hall free of charge.
The Fundraising Officer, Sean Christensen organised a very successful evening with excellent support from the Committee and other members of the churches.
The food prepared by local chef Pauline Heng and her team of volunteer waiters and kitchen help, the décor in the hall looked beautiful and each table was adorned with flower arrangements by a local mum, Glenys Bakker. Beautiful orchids also added warmth to the ‘normally cold brick walls’ that are part of the schools gym.
Joel Bennett is the current youth coordinator employed by GCEA and last night he spoke of his experiences with today’s youth on the campus. He said ‘my heart is for young people to know Jesus and how to walk with Him daily in guiding their lives’.
Local businesses provided products for auction and Sean thought of fun ways for people to acquire the products. Galston & Community Bendigo Bank provided
two petrol vouchers for $250 each; Dural Music provided a casio keyboard which patrons had to find the key to unlock the padlock placed around it; Hargraves Nursery provided two nursery vouchers for $100; Galston Village shops; IGA; Galston Newsagency, Bliss Beauty Salon, Galston Village Pharmacy, Eric’s Tender Meats; The Galston Club and Compass Travel all provided items that very grateful recipients acquired throughout the evening.
Over $7,000 was raised throughout the night and it could not have been achieved without the wonderful teamwork of these 11 church communities.
