GodTube, a video-sharing site with Christian content, is filling a particular ‘niche’ market, remarked an academic, as it is believed to be one of the fastest growing website on the Internet.
The Christian site had grown at a phenomenal rate, according to ComScore’s Media Matrix, where it had 1.7 million unique visitors that represented an increase of 973 percent over the previous month.
Through the success of social network sites such as YouTube and Facebook, Rick Colby, assistant professor of religion at Miami University, noted it was a surprise for religious sites, such as God Tube, to appear given the diverse profile of the audience who visited these sites.
"Youtube opened our eyes to the model, and then Godtube filled a particular niche," Mr. Colby told the Ecumenical News International. Still, Colby noted, "It surprises me there'd be a need for it when you can get anything from Youtube."
Chris Wyatt, the CEO of the website, said he created the site to be used as resources for Christians where every video clip was reviewed. Furthermore, he described the video-content site as a neutral “Switzerland” opened to various theological point of views, though member of religions cannot proselytize, reported the AP news agency.
