Dr. Carl Moeller, the President of Open Doors USA, has received disturbing news that the murder of a manager who worked in a Christian bookstore in Gaza was allegedly carried out by a senior Hamas militant.
Speaking to Mission Network News (MNN), Dr. Moeller expressed his disappointment in receiving the information, saying Hamas remains indifferent to the allegation and even sent Ashraf Abu Layla, the alleged murderer who is the central Gaza chief of Hamas’s so called military wing, on a pilgrimage to Mecca.
"The most disappointing aspect of this discovery is that not only is this a Hamas person who committed this crime, apparently, but also that despite the assurances right after the murder that they had nothing to do with it, they haven't distanced themselves from him and in fact have sent him on a pilgrimage to Mecca," Dr. Moeller said.
Police found Rami Ayyard, the manager of the Palestinian Bible Society bookstore, near his place of work in early October with a shot in his head and multiple stab wounds, reported Compass Direct News.
At the time of Mr. Ayyard’s funeral, a large delegation of Hamas leader visited his family and conveyed their condolences on behalf of the prime minister, Ismail Haniya, who condemned the murder.
Dr. Moeller continued saying he urged Christians to pray for boldness among the 3,000 strong Christian community living in Gaza who are increasingly being threaten.
