The Council of the Melbourne School of Theology announced today the appointment of Mr Timothy Meyers as Principal from the beginning of 2012.

Since the advice from Rev Mike Raiter earlier this year that he will conclude his ministry at MST at the end of 2011, the Council has considered a number of applicants and potential candidates. After a process of prayer, consultation and interviews Mr Meyers is the unanimous choice of the Council.

Tim Meyers grew up in a missionary family in Papua and New Guinea before moving to Melbourne, where he met and married Kathryn. They have five children. Tim has a ThM from Dallas Theological Seminary, with a double major in Systematic Theology and Bible Exposition. He brings to MST extensive leadership experience as a pastor at Ashgrove and Helensvale Baptist Churches in Queensland from 1991 to 2000, and then as a mission leader with Pioneers.

Until recently, Tim served as the Associate International Director, having been the National Director of Pioneers of Australia from 2000 to 2008. Tim has been based in Melbourne for more than 10 years and is well-known among churches in Victoria as well as around Australia through his mission leadership activities, preaching and teaching.

Tim joins the College at a strategic point in its development. This is highlighted by the appointment of four new faculty members - Dr Andrew Brown (Old Testament), Dr Scott Harrower (Theology and Church History), Dr Peter Tie (Chinese Ministry Dept. – Theology) and Peter Orr (completing his PhD in Biblical Studies at Durham University UK). This follows the move to the College's outstanding new premises at Wantirna, the joint location of the English and Chinese departments and the change of name to The Melbourne School of Theology.

President of the MST Council, Ian Cathie expressed the Council's thanksgiving to God for Tim Meyers’ appointment. "We have earnestly sought the Lord’s leading, over many months, to identify the person of His choosing for this unique and strategic role. We give thanks and praise to God for providing such a clear sense of conviction among the Council, as well as throughout the consultative process. We are grateful for the gifts of leadership and relationships Tim brings to the role of Principal for this new season in the development of MST. We are sure all stakeholders in the College will support and pray for him as he prepares to take up his new responsibilities.”
