NSW Catholic politicians are expressing their defiance against Cardinal George Pell’s warning that they will face “consequences” if they voted in favour of the stem-cell bill which is currently up for debate in the NSW Legislative Assembly.

The Catholic Archbishop of Sydney, Cardinal Pell is currently facing a backlash from politicians by earlier saying that they would face “consequences” for their place in church life if they proceeded to vote for the stem-cell bill since it was a serious moral matter.

The Sydney Anglican has entered into the debate with a press release, stating that the NSW Anglicans opposed the bill and urged politicians to vote against it.

Instead of stem-cell research, the press statement said politicians should examine the alternative of adult stem-cell research which is making progress despite having a limited funding base.

The press statement goes further saying that the fundamental tenet of medicine is that good medicine will never harm one in order to heal another. This bill represents a violation of the tenet, where an embryonic human being is created only to be destroyed for some perceived or possible benefit in the future.

Christians from across denominations and ministries have been united in their opposition to the NSW stem-cell research bill with all calling for NSW politicians to vote against it.
