Last night the Adoption Amendment (Same Sex Couples) Bill 2010 passed the Legislative Council of the NSW parliament, 22:15.
“This bill, which narrowly passed the Legislative Assembly last week, 46:44, would deny children the love of a mum or the love of a dad,” said FamilyVoice NSW state officer Steve Estherby.
“Children in need of adoption deserve the very best that we can offer to ensure their well-being,” Rev Estherby said. “It is callous and cruel to deliberately deny such a child either the love of a mum or the love of a dad. Mothers and fathers parent differently – children need input from both. Sometimes tragic circumstances mean that a child cannot experience the love of both parents, but this bill would intentionally deprive some children of this basic right from the outset.
“We congratulate those MPs from all parties who vigorously opposed the bill, in the best interests of NSW children,” Steve Estherby said.
