The Heart Foundation’s memorial and thanksgiving service to remember those lost to heart, stroke and blood vessel disease and to give thanks for those who have survived, will be held on Sunday 4 July 2010 at St Joseph’s Church, 3 Salvado Road, Subiaco.

Anyone touched by heart disease is invited to attend the service, which will feature guest speaker Dr Duncan Jefferson, vocal duo Nadia Santarini and David Torre and Sing from the Heart Choir Applecross.

The service will be lead by Pastor Graham Maybury and prayers and reflections will be read by clergy from a number of participating denominations.

The Heart Foundation saves lives and improves health through funding world-class cardiovascular research, guidelines for health professionals, informing the public and assisting people with cardiovascular disease.

Heart Foundation Chief Executive Maurice Swanson said that while the work of the foundation over the past five decades had helped reduce the number of deaths, cardiovascular disease (heart, stroke and blood vessel disease) remained one of Australia’s most devastating health problems.

“Cardiovascular disease, which includes heart, stroke and diseases of the blood vessels, is the leading cause of death in Australia, accounting for 34 per cent of all deaths in Australia in 2007. It kills one Australian every 11 minutes,” he said.

“The memorial and thanksgiving service is a fitting tribute to the memory of those who have been lost to cardiovascular disease.”

As a charity, the Heart Foundation relies on donations and gifts in Wills to continue its lifesaving research, education and health promotion work. For further information visit www.heartfoundation.org.au or call 1300 36 27 87.
