Russia have been unbelievably knocked out of the Euro 2012 tournament by a surprise result as Greece somehow against the odds found a winner to advance to the quarter final positions. In the other interesting battle in Group A, Co host Poland needed a win to go through however the surprising Czech Republic had other ideas, winning 1-1 to send the holders out and keep their dream alive. Both Czech and Greece both go through to face difficult Quarter Final opponents.

The Group of Death was again watched with anticipation as all 4 teams were in the running to go through to the later stages going into the last match. Germany needed a point to secure top of group B while the winner of Netherlands and Portugal were most likely to joint them. It turned out Germany were too strong for Denmark, winning late on 2-1 while Portugal stunned the disappointing Dutch 2-1 with Ronaldo scoring a brace. Germany top the group with Portugal making up the second available spot in the group of death.

Group C didn’t spring any real surprises in the end with both Spain and Italy advancing to the quarter finals. Spain dispatched a tough Croatia late on with an 88th minute winner to send the Croatians home, whilst Italy won 2-0 at the hands of Republic of Ireland.

Group D kick off tonight with France and England favourites to go through, however this tournament, like most is likely to spring some upsets so there could be more even before the quarter finals.
