The Salvation Army has called on the Australian public to donate cash, rather than goods, to their appeal for people affected by the Queensland and North New South Wales floods.
Major Glenn Whittaker from The Salvation Army has praised the generosity of Australians but says cash donations are what’s needed most.
“We’ve been overwhelmed by the level of support for The Salvation Army Flood Appeal and we’d like to say a heartfelt thanks to everyone who’s donated so far.
“However, at this stage we are only accepting cash donations as this allows us to aid the community immediately. This also allows the people affected to recover with dignity by purchasing items they need most which, in turn, injects much needed funds into the local economy”, says Major Whittaker.
The Salvation Army today released over half a million dollars to aid the relief and recovery effort and continue to provide care and support to those affected.
Those wishing to donate to The Salvation Army Flood Appeal can do so online at salvos.org.au, or in person at any Woolworths or Big W store across the country. Donations are tax deductible.
