National Day of Thanksgiving was recently concluded and it was considered a success. There were almost ten thousand people who attended from different parts of the country. Compared to last year the number of people who attended increased by 20%.
Information packs were disseminated in different churches and schools. The number of schools that participated has also increased this year. The education department even included the event as part of the school calendar.
National Day of Thanksgiving was initiated to make churches and individual Christians a vehicle in spreading Christ’s love to various communities through different ideas and event. The day started with breakfast and morning teas. There are also festivals that entertained families. The whole day was filled with worship celebrations and Thanksgiving services.
This year, radio stations broadcasted formal breakfast that was attended by political leaders, local councilors, community leaders and public servants. The leaders were touched by the challenge of Christ’s love.
There were festivals that were held across the county. Brisbane made spring cleaning of more than 600 homes for disabled and disadvantaged people across their city. Central Coast (NSW) community reported serving 800 individual morning teas to public servants in their area.
In Melbourne the Vietnamese Evangelical Church handed out free food to shoppers in their local mall and then undertook a cleanup of the area around their local railway station as an act of service to their community. They were also churches that gathered food and clothes for the needy. In Townsville, they celebrated National Day of Thanksgiving because of so many activities.
It is reported that there were almost 100,000 cards, ribbons and badges were sold this year. Most of them were given to leaders.
