World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) welcomed Wycliffe International as its newest Global Partner, adding strength to the alliance’s efforts in promoting transformation solidly rooted in the Bible.
“We are delighted that Wycliffe International has become a WEA Global Partner,” said Dr Geoff Tunnicliffe, the International Director of the WEA. “As a global network Wycliffe is one of the best known and respected Christian ministries in the world.
"WEA clearly supports the aims of Wycliffe to be a catalyst for God’s solutions for the communities of the world who don’t have His word in their own language.
I truly hope this new partnership will advance the cause of Christ around the world.”
Wycliffe International includes 49 autonomous Wycliffe organisations, all of which raise resources for Bible translation and literacy work carried out through Wycliffe organisations, partners and networks.
A quarter of the Wycliffe organisations also lead Bible translation and literacy programmes in their own countries. With more than 2200 languages still without any Scripture, the challenge to bring God's Word to the world remains significant. To meet the need, Wycliffe International launched Vision 2025 to see a Bible translation programme in progress for every language group that needs it by the year 2025.
Kirk Franklin, the head of Wycliffe affirmed the new partnership with the WEA.
“I am excited that Wycliffe International is now a WEA Global Partner,” said Franklin. “Our ministry and all whom we represent respect the impact WEA is having around the world. Our particular focus is a good fit with WEA's desire to 'extend the Kingdom of God by proclamation of the Gospel to all nations and by Christ-centered transformation within society'.
"I believe this is a unique opportunity for Wycliffe International to now be a more active partner with WEA and all whom it represents.”
Global Partner membership is given to international organisations that specialise in a field that contributes to the WEA’s mission and objectives. There are currently ten other Global Partners serving the WEA constituency.
