Christians Against Poverty (CAP) is a ministry that partners with local churches. Together, the aim is to help release Australians from the devastating impact of debt and poverty as well as introducing them to the unconditional love of Jesus Christ.
CAP provides a sustainable solution through a unique debt management system which empowers the poorest people in the communities to manage their debts, helping them work towards becoming debt free. This helps to alleviate poverty and the socio-economic hardship that many of the CAP clients experience. It also empowers the clients to regain control of their lives and breaks the destructive cycle of generational poverty.
All of this is achieved through a growing network of centres in partnership with local churches, all supported by specialised services at the National Headquarters in Newcastle. The services are free of charge and are open to all people, without prejudice.
“We felt hopeless, scared and at stages it was just too hard to comprehend and we would just hide away unable to face anybody. Our lives have changed dramatically since working with CAP. We have money to buy groceries. We now feel that whatever the hurdle is we can jump it” - Renae, CAP Client
